yearn for the air to stay a little longer
yearn for each molecule that makes up the breath
to hold onto one another
before they disperse into a brand-new constellation

return your attention to your breath if it has strayed.
imagine we are together
(you and i)
we are walking side-by-side, staring straight ahead.
parallel lines
i don't see you, nor you i
we sense each other
there is nothing around us
there is nothing between us
our steps are perfectly in sync as we stride toward nothing.
imagine the nothing.
hold onto it
imagine riding on the city bus.
take a slow, deep breath through your nose
smell the smells of the bus
perfume, french fries, something putrid
look at the people inside the bus
no one makes eye contact
this is your stop
but you could stay
stay and yearn for the others to stay too
stay together a little longer
before you disperse on the exhale
